Layla/Eve(56)

I stood in front of our army and watched as the first of the rogues approached us. We all stood in a large clearing far away from the city. We wanted to keep humans out of this at all cost. I tried not to show how nervous I was, but I and the others were all wondering the same thing. Would we make to see tomorrow? I have fought many times but never like this.  This war will decide what fate the world will become.  I thought about what I had told everyone before we left the hotel. I stood in front of them all not quite sure what to say to help their nerves. All of their nervous eyes stared over at me. “We stand here today to fight in war we may not win. You know as well as I do that we are outnumbered and some are not as strong.” I stopped and watched as the tension rose “But I am not going to tell you we’re all going to die, no, I am going to tell you we could win this but only if we stick together. We have to stand strong against the enemy. One thing we have and they don’t is a reason to fight. We fight to protect our loved ones while they fight only for themselves. Now if we band together we can defeat these rogues. I don’t know if I look it but if you don’t think I’m scared then you’re wrong. Even if I am queen of the demons I still fear what could possibly happen or if I may fail as a queen to you all. There is nothing wrong with being scared. I can see in all your eyes you are worried and I cannot blame you. As long as we stand strong we can make it through this, I know we will lose many lives today but we can’t let any of them die in vain. Today we make history. Today we decide the fate of this world and those who live on it.”

I felt a hand touch my shoulder; I looked over and saw my familiar red haired friend Velia. I hadn’t seen her since I left the demon realm. “Abrianna and I have prepared the medical area.” I nodded my head in reply and looked back towards the rogues who were closely approaching.  “Don’t worry Layla. Everything will be fine.” Velia said though I could hear the weariness in her voice.

“It always surprises how you can stay positive Velia.” I said slightly grinning “Now go take your places with the others. You’ll be very busy.”

She shook her and walked away. I wish I could believe what she had said but I couldn’t bring myself to. There were many more of them then there were of us. And if Lucifer was freed… I’m not sure what would happen.  I stared forward and saw Gedeon leading the rogues. He must have seen me to because he gave me a menacing grin. I knew he was thinking he would defeat us, and right then I thought he would too. I could hear the nervous whispers coming from behind me. There were demons behind me that were many years younger than I was and I wondered how many would die before the day was through. There were also demons that I had known since I was born, did any of them ever wonder if the world would come to this?

“Layla,” I twisted my head back and saw Bresal walking towards me.  “Are you ready?” He asked

“If I said yes, I would be lying.” I replied adjusting one of his arm guards.

When I finished he bent his head down towards me and kissed me gently on the lips. I hoped none of the others were watching, but I didn’t really care right now.  This could be the last time I see Bresal, we may all be dead by the end of this. “I love you.” He whispered in my ear

“I love you too. Please be careful Bresal.”

He nodded his head “I will, same goes for you too.”

I smiled at him and squeezed hand then let go and watched him walk away. “My Queen? My Queen what you like us to do the rogues are approaching quickly.”

I paused for a moment then looked towards the demon “Prepare for battle. We have a long day ahead of us.”~

“Give up now and we may let you live.” Gedeon’s voice called out

“We’d rather die!” Someone from behind me shouted

“Layla? Step forward, I want to make this official.”

“I’ll meet you half way.” I replied motioning Bresal and another demon to follow behind me.

I kept my hand on my sword as we approached each other. A man and a woman who recognized to be Eliza stood behind Gedeon, the man I could not recognize from the distance. The closer I got though the sooner I realized who it was behind Gedeon. It was my own brother Clement. Standing with the enemy in front of me was my own brother. I felt like I was betrayed. Even I tried to kill him I never expected him to go on their side. Once close enough I had to try to hide my anger towards my brother whom was trying to avoid my eyes. Trader.

Clement looked at me I had no choice Layla.

Yes you did. Now I have more of a reason to not call you my brother.

Layla,

But before he could continue Gedeon began “Now Layla, we can settle this my way, in which will require you to become like us and only a few of you will die. Or we can do it your way and you will all die.”

“As tempting as that sound Gedeon,” I replied with a tone of sarcasm “I’d rather have us all die then become like you.” I finished glaring at Clement then Eliza

“You can never do anything the easy way can you Layla? Oh well then, I’ll quite enjoy shedding your blood.” He pulled out his sword and I quickly did the same just in time to block his strike. Bresal then took Clement while the other demon attacked Eliza. I heard the others behind us begin to run towards us. So the war has begun.

The sound of swords clashing filled my ears as I blocked Gedeon’s strikes. I knew how he fought and I was going to let him strike at me until he becomes tired. He attacks blindly in hopes of killing his ‘prey’ without truly thinking it out. He may be stronger than me, but I was smarter and more agile. I cursed as I didn’t dodge quite fast enough and the tip of his sword scraped across my arm. “Give up Layla. You’ll never win, you should have joined me when you had the chance.” He panted as he circled me.

“Ha, and have to listen to your stupid rules? Who do you think I am Clement?” I replied

That’s when Gedeon made a crucial mistake. In anger he charged at me giving me the perfect opportunity to strike. He charged toward me and I easily dodged him. I cut his back with my sword as he passed me. He fell to his knees and cried out in pain. “Any last words Gedeon?” I asked placing the tip of my sword at his neck.

He grinned “Watch out behind you.”

I turned my head and saw Eliza coming towards me. I managed to duck down and roll out of the way to avoid her sword. I cursed and hit my fist on the ground. I was so close to killing him. “Damn it!”

“Watch your language Laylay. It’s not very appropriate for a queen to talk like that.”

I stood up cautiously “Go to hell Eliza.”

“Oh my dear Laylay don’t be so cruel. But I guess why wouldn’t you want to kill me? I’m everything you ever wanted to be.”

“Shut up Eliza.” And this is how Eliza fought. She enjoyed getting into your head.

“You know its true Layla. I mean everyone always liked me better including your Bresal. He rather adored my company.”

I shook my head “No Eliza. I may have believed that before but not now, not anymore.”

I ran into her knocking her into the ground. She looked up at me with horror for a moment but was soon replaced with a grin “What are you going to Layla kill me?”

I smiled “How’d you guess?” I began to stab my knife down into her, but she before it completely got her, she disappeared. I cursed again but I knew the sword hit her and hit her bad.

I spun around and began to run to look for Bresal. I dodged as rogues swung at me as I ran by. When I finally saw Bresal he was just finishing off a male rouge. He had a large cute on his cheek and he had burn marks on his hands. He saw me running up to him and he said after I looked at his hands “Fire rogue.”

“Where’s Clement?” I asked watching to make sure rogues weren’t coming near us.

“I don’t know. As we were fighting he knocked me to the ground and I thought he was going to kill me, but instead he left me lying on the ground.” I gave him a quizzical look. He nodded and continued “That’s what I was thinking. I tried to find him again but I was attacked by other rogues and I lost him.”

What was Clement up to? If he was truly on our side we had to find me before he lost all control and attacked one of our own. Bresal seemed to be thinking the same thing. Before we could go though we were surrounded by five or more rogues, their black eyes staring at us. I nodded once at Bresal and attacked the first rogue. Clement was just going to have to wait.
Bresal and I easily took out the first few until there was only one left. A woman rogue with black hair that went almost to her waist was all that was left. She grinned extending her fangs. Bresal and I began to go after her but before we even reached her she extended her hands towards and water hit my face knocking me to the ground.

A water demon? You’ve got to be kidding me! I didn’t think water demons still existed. I’d only heard stories of them. Bresal and I both exchange surprised looks. “How come we don’t have any of them on our side?” Bresal asked standing up and helping me up as well. We both quickly dodged the rogue’s second blast. I wasn’t quite sure how we’d get close enough to attack her. When she was about send a third blast I saw her eyes become glazy. I looked down and to my surprise I saw a knife sticking out of her stomach. Bresal and I both looked back and saw a familiar face. I didn’t think I would have ever of thought this but I couldn’t of been happier to see Zoe approaching us. It didn’t mean that I would say it out loud though “Where the hell have you been?”

“That’s the thanks I get?”

“Don’t joke around with me Zoe. Tell me where you’ve been.” I threatened
“I went to the demon camp.”

Before she continued I yelled “Why would you do that? Were you trying to get yourself killed?”

“I had to find Luke!” She replied “And I found him and there planning on killing him to free Lucifer. So we have to find him before they can.”

I looked at her for a moment then nodded my head. I looked Bresal and said “You stay here, I’m going with Zoe to find Lucas.”

“Alright. Just… be careful.” He replied running towards one of our demons who was being attacked by three rogues.

“Well let’s go.” I said to Zoe, who shook her head and followed me towards where she came from. I just prayed we’d find Lucas before it was too late.~
Eve:
I swung my sword that felt too heavy in my hands around at the rogue in front of me. I had run out to help a demon boy who had fallen to the ground wounded, but I was stopped by this rogue. I’m not going to lie, my balance was terrible and coordination failed. All of those lessons at the Society didn’t really seem to make much difference now. The rogue was probably laughing in his head the entire time. “Poor little pureblood can’t fight.” He taunted

I wiped a bead of sweat off my face and glared at the rogue. I tried to think of one of the things Michael had taught me. Concentrate Evelynn. His voice said in my head

I closed my eyes and pictured the demon. “Aren’t you going to fi-” but before the rogue could finish his sentence the rouges body twitched and fell to the ground. I did that?

The other rogues stopped and looked at me with a mix of confusion and fear. I began to feel dizzy though, I hadn’t realized how much energy it would take to have killed that demon. I stepped back trying to catch my balance. I yelped as a rogue began to come at me with a sword, I fell to the ground and was just able to roll out of the way from the fatal blow. I looked over and saw my sword was just arm’s length away. The rogue smiled down at me and I closed my eyes and prayed it wouldn’t hurt too badly. After a moment of still living I opened my eyes and saw Malcolm with his sword in the rogues back. I couldn’t have been happier to see him.  I quickly stood up “Thanks,” I said

“No problem, but what are you doing? You’re supposed to be with Abri.”

“I had to help…” I then looked over at the demon and could tell I was too late “never mind.”

I quickly made my way back to Abrianna and Velia, leaving Malcolm to fight the rogues. I tried to keep my find of it, but I couldn’t help but look for Clement. To see if he would emerge from the battle to find me. Why would he? Why would you want him to? You have no future with him. I shook my head and ran to Abrianna “What can I help you with?”

She looked at me, her face was streaked with blood that I knew wasn’t her own. “Go to that girl over there.”

I nodded and went to the girl lying on the ground. I wanted to cry at the sight. This girl looked like she was younger than I was, and here she was a poor girl with a huge puncture in her stomach. I put my hand on her head and said “Don’t worry; I’m here to help you.”

The girl didn’t reply, no I don’t think she could reply. Her face was becoming very pale and I could see she was suffering from blood loss. I placed my hands on her stomach and concentrated. I closed my eyes and tried to use all the power I could come up with to save this poor girl. When I opened my eyes again I saw the wound was gone and the demon girl looked at me with her large red eyes. “Thanks,” She managed to say. I nodded my head and said “Now you need to rest.” The girl didn’t argue and closed her eyes and quickly fell asleep.

I stood up and began to look for the other wounded until I heard someone call my name. At first I thought I was hearing things but I continued to hear my name. I began to follow the voice but the owner to that voice wasn’t who I expected. I nearly jumped when I saw who it was. “Clement?”

“Evelynn!” He yelled jogging toward me

I didn’t know whether to run from him or greet him. I noticed he was wearing the same armor that many of the rogues had been wearing. I stood in shock as he reached me. “Evelynn I had to find you.”

“Why do you look like one of the rogues?” I asked

The question surprised him “That’s not what I was expecting...”

“Answer the question Clement.”

Clement began to reply when I noticed we were surrounded by many other rogues. “Wh-what’s going on?” I stuttered

Behind Clement I saw Gedeon approach me “Well what do you think?”

I gave him a confused look and he looked at Clement “Are you going to do it or not? You told me you could do it.”

“Do what? Clement what is he talking about?”

Gedeon rolled his eyes “Do you ever shut up? Now Clement take care of her.”

I then realized what he was talking about. Clement was supposed to kill me. Clement shook his head “I can’t do it Gedeon.”

“I should have known you were too weak.” Gedeon said pushing Clement towards the other rogues. “I’ll just do it myself.”

“NO!” Clement cried as Gedeon approached me. I tried to do what I did to the other rogue but I was too weak. I could hear Malcolm yelling my name while trying to fight past the rogues. Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion as Gedeon came towards me with a dagger in his hand. “Don’t touch her!” Clement yelled trying to push the rogues off of him. “You touch her and I will rip you to shreds!”

My heart began to beat quickly. I couldn’t fight I couldn’t run, I couldn’t even say anything. I then felt the sudden stinging of the blade in my stomach. I let out a cry of agony as I fell to the ground.  I couldn’t hear what anyone was saying anymore. I forgot about Gedeon, Lucifer and the war around us I was in too much pain to care. I felt two hands on my face “Evelynn? Evelynn look at me please.” I opened my eyes slightly and saw Clement’s blue eyes looking at me. “Eve, please just hang on.” I could see tears running down his face. My eye sight began to fade and the pain grew less and less. “Eve please, I love you. I’m sorry for everything I did, but you can’t go Eve not yet, I love you more than anything else in the world.” He looked away from me for a moment and looked up towards someone and said something I couldn’t catch.

Evelynn, listen to me. You have to hold on just a little longer. Michael’s concerned voice said Keep thinking about what you have now and of everyone you’d leave behind.

It hurts so much Michael.

I know Evelynn, just hold on.

The last thing I remember seeing was a bright light then Michael’s purple eyes looking down at me. Then everything went black.~
