After Zoe had left I felt the emptiness return. I could feel the ghost of her lips on mine. I kept looking at the door as I sat on the side of the bed from time to time. Should I go after her? Should I stay? Or should I just accept that she might not even come back? I sighed; what am I supposed to do? I looked down at my feet. I would give her some time to come back…because for some reason I knew that she wouldn’t leave.
I thought about Gemma; was she ok? Did she miss me like I did her...Was she even alive still? I closed my eyes and thought of her smile…the way her eyes would light up when we used to go do things together. This is why I have to save her…because even when I was back at the society we hardly did anything together out of society events. I have to make that up to her…I’ll take her away, let her see the world like she so desperately wanted…but…would there even be a world after this? Would Gemma still love me after all of this? No. As I said though before…better to have her hate me and be alive then her love her brother and be dead.
I stood up and grabbed my knife out of the drawer. Zoe hadn’t been back in awhile. I knew I shouldn’t care but I couldn’t help but worry about her…no matter how well she’d be able to take care of herself. I threw my backpack over my shoulder and walked out of the hotel. I left the car knowing that I could always come back for it once I found her.
What confuses me is why you always go after her sooner or later Lucifer sighed You humans are so confusing. One minute you’re fighting and the next you’re kissing and then it starts all over again.
Do you always have to comment on everything? I replied
Only when it’s necessary…besides what else is there for me to do? It’s not like I can leave this hell hole….I guess I could talk to the dead but they get so depressing.
I wonder why?
So are you going to find my dear friend Malpas or not?
After I find Zoe.
Zoe this, Zoe that. Boy you are obsessed with that girl it’s almost sickening.
Then get out of my head and go talk to the dead if it’s so sickening to you.
Just hurry up before I get even more pissed then I already am. He replied as he faded away
I sighed, now to get back to reality and find Zoe. I walked down the sidewalk past all the stores and towards the park. I stoped at the park trying to see if she could be here by any chance.
Lucifer’s presence came back and he sighed Close your eyes and think about her
Oh so you want to help me find her now? I replied smirking
Shut up and just do what I tell you.
I closed my eyes like he said and saw her image appear.
Now…try to imagine what she smells like, her voice, all that crap that separates her from everyone else. After that I want you to open your eyes and you should see a trace of colors. Look for the one that pulls you to it most and it shall lead you to her.
I did as he said and found a purple streak towards the bench leading towards the outside of town.
How did you figure out all this stuff? I asked him
It’s a thing that angels are able to do.
You’re…
Not an angel? No not exactly, more of a dark one as some would say. I believe by how that trace is that our dear friend Malpas found her. He chuckled and he again faded away
I ran along in the direction of the line of purple. By the time it started to grow more vivid I was at a small house about three blocks from the main part of the town. A tall oak tree stood off to the side in the yard. I walked up to the door and felt nauseous at once. I knew immediately that this house had been on holly ground at one time. I took a deep breath and knocked on the door. I waited a little more than thirty second before a woman with wavy blonde hair answered.
“Can I help you?” She eyed me
“Yes,” I smiled “I believe one of my friends is here…Zoe?”
“I don’t know who you’re talking about.” She replied as she started to close the door but I stopped it.
I glared at her “I think you do know who I’m talking about, now where is she?”
I could hear footsteps from within the house as a male voice spoke “Joan why don’t you go check on our guest. I think they’re getting a little hungry.”
She looked back and nodded as a guy with messy brown hair took her place. He was wearing a leather jacket and dark blue jeans “May I help you?”
“Where’s Zoe?” I growled trying to take a step forward but the house wouldn’t allow it
“Ahh yes, I thought you’d show up sooner or later…Luke isn’t it?”
I glared at him “You must be Malpas.”
He grinned “Yes, last time I checked. Your friend is alright by the way…a little shaken up by the flight I think but otherwise alright.”
“You-” I started but he just started to laugh
“Insults won’t do anything but make me mad Lucas. I don’t think you want to see a angel when they’re pissed.”
“I don’t think you want to see me when I’m pissed.” I growled
“I’m sure.” He smiled
“Why don’t you just let me in so we can settle all this? I need my friend and you have some information that I can use.”
He laughed “I don’t think so; I let you in and I let him in. Besides what makes you think that I have the information that you need?”
That bastard! Lucifer snarled Just wait until I’m released and I’ll rip him apart! He was the one that saw my brother’s throw me into this pit! He thought I didn’t see him but oh I did!
“He says that he saw you that day.” I replied and Malpas’s face turned white
I heard two people bickering; one of them was Zoe “Zoe? Zoe!” I yelled
“Luke?” she answered
“Let me in.” I growled at Malpas
“Why should I? So Lucifer can come in and hurt my family?” He then stopped as we both heard laughter
I turned around and saw a little girl no more than six walking along the sidewalk towards the house. I looked back at Malpas who was trying to hide his fear. Lucifer’s presence flared back up again. I tried to force him away but my body went numb withing seconds. We smiled and backed up at Malpas “I guess things have changed to my favor.” We smiled looking back at the girl.
I heard Malpas yell out the little girl’s name as we disappeared and grabbed the girl. She started to scream out in terror as Malpas ran out of the house.
“Asra!” he yelled again
“Now…are you going to tell me what I need to know?” Lucifer and I asked
He glared at me “You won’t hurt her.”
“Wouldn’t I?” we smirked grabbing a knife out of my jean’s pocket and waved it in front of the little girl
Stop this! I yelled at Lucifer
Why should I? We need that information and this is the only way we’ll get his attention.
She’s just a little girl Lucifer!
“Daddy!” Asra cried
Lucifer brought the knife closer and I tried to fight back. If this was anyone else I wouldn’t have thought so strongly to fight back, but this was going too far. The knife started to come down but our hand stopped…my hand stopped and wavered. I struggled to get back control but it was like fighting off a bear, almost impossible.
“Alright already!?” Malpas yelled “I’ll tell you! Just don’t hurt her! Please…don’t hurt her…”
Lucifer’s presence faded slowly but before he did he told me You try that one more time and I’ll make sure you’re sister is fed to my dogs….
I let go of the girl quickly as she ran to her father. I slumped on my knees as I heard someone run over to me. I then saw Zoe’s face looking down at me as she cupped my face in her hands.
“I tried…” I croaked “to fight back like you said….I couldn’t let him kill her…but he’s too strong Zoe…he’s too strong now.”
“Shh,” she replied pulling me closer
“I’m sorry…I should have told you why we were here…”
“Yes, you should have.” She replied coolly
“I should kill you right now for what you tried to do.” Malpas growled as Zoe and I looked over at him
“Lucifer was controlling him…he couldn’t help it.” Zoe replied slowly. I could tell she was mad at me still.
“Joan take Asra up to her room…” Malpas replied to the blonde lady “I have some business to take care of.”
Joan nodded her head and pulled Asra to her closely as they went inside the house.
“We’ll stay on the porch and talk.” Malpas replied flatly
I stood up and Zoe moved away from me “You mean you’re still going to free him!?”
I ignored her comment and walked over towards Malpas and took a seat. Yes I was still going to free Lucifer…but everything had changed now. I would set Lucifer free alright, but only so I could be the one to end him.
“So where is he?” I asked him
“Norwood, North Yorkshire…England,” He replied “that’s where they banished him to.”
“England?” I asked
“What? Did you think he’d be close at hand?”
“No….but thank you.”
“It’s not like I had a choice in the matter now did I? You did have a knife to my daughter’s throat after all…”
“I tried to stop him.”
“I know…” he sighed “but in the end I guess it doesn’t matter…you’ll still free him and then we’ll all be dead now won’t we?”
I made sure Zoe wasn’t listening and leaned forward “I won’t let him…after he tried to hurt your daughter it changed things…he went too far.”
“What are you getting at?”
“…I’m going to free him so I can kill him myself.”
“It’s not possible Luke…no one can kill the devil…not even Michael could. What makes you think that you could?”
“I don’t know…but I got to try. I would just ignore him and not free him but I can’t let my sister die…”
That was the plane now; get Luci to heal Gemma and then turn on him. It was time he paid the consequences.
“Lucas, take some advice from someone other than the devil. You’re sister won’t be the same after he “saves” her she’ll…”
“Be a monster? I realize that now…but what if I could help her? Make her realize that she doesn’t have to be one?”
“It doesn’t work that way Luke…”
“I got to try…” I repeated
A second later I heard Zoe yelling at me and Malpas charged into me making us fall onto the porch floor “You saved my daughter’s life…you might be on a suicide mission but I respect someone who tries to help others.”
Malpas stood up and laughed “Briathos, what a nice surprise!”
“Just let us take care of Luke Malpas…no one has to get hurt.”
“This is my town. I’m its protector. Right now these two are on my property and you’re trespassing.”
“Malpas be reasonable…” Briathos replied
“I am being reasonable, now get the hell off my property.” Malpas growled
“I didn’t want to do this Malpas…but you give me no choice.”
“Everyone has a choice…but when I made mine you all treated me like I was filth!” he yelled and then next thing he turned into a large raven and flew at the other angel.
I forced myself up and ducked as another blade flew at me. I held my knife up as Layla appeared right in front of me bring her knife down. My back hit the wall as I tried to block her attacks. The next thing I knew thought my knife flew out of my hand. I grabbed her wrist as she tried to bring her own to my heart. We both breathed heavily and from the corner of my eye I saw her brother and her mate appear and twisted her wrist and pushed her towards them. I jumped over the railing and ran towards Zoe who was arguing with the others. I ran towards them but something hit underneath my chin and knocked me backwards.
My neck hurt as I backed up to stand up but then I stopped. Rouges were everywhere; the angels had stopped fighting and were back to back as a group surrounded them and the others. I looked back and the other demon’s were surrounded as well (a new one had joined with them).
I looked up and a dark skinned demon smiled down at me “Well well, isn’t it the guy we’ve been looking for…”
From the corner of my eye I saw my knife and went for it. I tried to block his sword but my knife slipped from the force of the other blade and dug into my shoulder. I yelled out in pain as he took the blade out and licked the blood off.
“Yep…you’re him alright…” he then looked up “I thought you’d have killed each other off already.” He smiled at the demons “No matter though….my family will take care of you, but right now I believe me and Luke here have a appointment with Lucifer.”
I kicked my leg under the rouge’s and he fell. I grabbed his knife and held it to his throat “I’m not going anywhere with you.” I growled
He laughed “I believe you are if you want your little friends to live.”
“My friends can take care of themselves.” I replied but before I could finish him off two other rouges appeared and pulled me off of him
I tried to fight back as the others fought with the other surrounding rouges. I heard a gunshot and one of them fell down. I guess Malcolm was useful at times.X
I fired the gun again at another rouge and they fell down dead. I heard what seemed to be a strike of lightning then and the archangels appeared. The rouges coward in fear but they then went after them. I saw a rouge go after Abri and fire the pistol at his head. He fell dead at Abri’s feet. I ran over towards her.
“You alright?” I asked her and she nodded
“Duck!” she yelled and I did as she threw a knife at another rouge.
I stood up and smiled “thanks.”
We then continued to pick off the rouges one by one with the angels and archangel’s help. I saw Clement join Eve as they to and the others fought. All my bullets had seem to run out in a matter of moments though. I saw Abri fighting off another demon as I fired my last bullet at a different one a second before. Another rouge then went after her just as she finished off the one but she wouldn’t be ready to block them in time. I yelled at Abri and disappeared right in front of her and felt the rouge’s weapon go into my back and through my chest. I looked down at the blade as it stuck out only inches away from Abri. I then looked up into Abri’s horrified eyes as I heard Gabriel yell out as the rouge took his blade out.
I turned around the block the rouge’s next attack as Gabriel swiped his sword to the rouge’s head. The body fell headless and crumpled into ash and disappeared. I breathed hard as I fell down onto my knees and then onto my side. Everyone’s voices were muffled. I tried to breath but I couldn’t. Two phrases I caught from someone was “punctured lung.” And “almost impossible to heal.”
I started to sweat and it seemed as though the world was ice. I felt a hand on my cheek and made out Abri’s face. She said something but I couldn’t tell what, but then I heard her voice in my head.
Malcolm listen to me…Malpas says you have to remember something…he wouldn’t say what but he said it will be the only thing that can save you…think!
I-I can’t….
I’m begging you Malcolm! Please!
My eyes started to flutter and my vision started to go dark. If I didn’t remember the place Amara and I had first met I would die…but maybe death wouldn’t be so bad…no. I have a family back at home and I have friends who care about me. I can’t leave them now. I tried to think back to the mission. My team and I were behind one of the trees, ahead was a small group of demons underneath a willow tree…but where was the place? I tried to remember what was said that day.
“I can’t believe we had to go all the way to England to find this group. I mean seriously it’s a cool place and all but why waste our time?”
Somewhere in England…I remembered going, but where did we go? Willow tree…England…wood…something with wood. Then it hit me; Norwood! I closed my eyes at the bright light that consumed my vision. I heard someone yell “Now!” and I felt two hands on my chest. At first it felt like the blade had gone in again but the next my chest felt like pins and needles.
When I opened my eyes again Abri was still looking down at me. I then saw Gabriel as he smiled “Welcome back.”
I sat up and looked at him quizzically, but before I could say anything Abri pulled me into a hug.
I gritted my teeth “Ow…Abri.”
“Sorry!” she said pulling away
“Ok he’s fine!” I heard Clement say “Can we go now? We’re wasting time! Gedoen already took Luke!”
Gabriel and the other archangels nodded. I saw Michael look over to the other two angels “Briathos…go gather up the others. Malpas…” he said as he looked at the fallen angel “You’re going to have to prove yourself and fight along with us. This is your war to.”
He looked back at the house and nodded “Let me go say goodbye then at least…”
“Hurry.” Michael replied
I caught Eve’s gaze during all of this and looked away. I still couldn’t forgive her…not yet. Abri helped me up as we faced the others.
“You think you’re fit enough to fight?” Layla asked me
I moved away from Abri making sure I could at least stand “Yes.”
“Good. Bresal, go to the demon realm and gather as many as many as you can. We’re going to need as many demons and angels we can get.”
He nodded “Where can we find you?”
“Malcolm knows…” Malpas smiled
I looked at him confused. How would he know? Then I saw how everyone was looking at me “Norwood, North Yorkshire England.” I replied
I would have to question Malpas later.
“So far?” Orchid asked
“It doesn’t matter,” Layla replied “We need to get there before Lucifer is released.”
All of us nodded as Bresal and Briathos disappeared.
Gabriel and I nodded to each other We’ll meet you there he replied with his thoughts until then, good luck.Ã
