Clement (5)
It was annoying how Malcolm and she kept locking gazes for half the fricken drive. I turned up the radio louder to some band called Drowning Pool. I looked in the review mirror to see if anyone was following us. I saw no one. I sighed. I just wanted this trip to be over and get this pure blood business over with already. Seeing Eve again brought back old memories, but the thing was I wasn’t sure if I felt the same way as I had for her. I mean I did care for her but my feelings over the days had faded. I was again stone hard Clement (almost). I saw Malcolm and Eve lock gazes again and finally had it. I pulled the car over and put it in park.
“What are you doing?” Malcolm asked
“Would you keep your eyes on the fricken area instead of her?” I snapped “We can both see she is obviously fine!”
Malcolm’s eyes widened but then smiled “Sorry.” He said sarcastically
We both heard a car door shut. I saw Eve running off towards the other way. I cursed and got out of the car. I ran after her and wrestled her to the ground.
“Get off of me!” she yelled
“Are you going to run away again?” I asked
“Just let me go!”
I lifted her up and made her look me in the eyes.
“I am very tired Eve,” I said “I came all this way with your stupid boyfriend to come and get you. I’ve hadn’t had any sleep for days because of this stupid trip. Now get your ass in the car before I make you.”
I saw Malcolm in the corner of my eye holding his pistol sword, but I kept my eyes on Eve. We stared at each other in a dead lock glare. I didn’t care if she hated me. All I cared about was getting rid of this new pure blood.
“He’s not my boyfriend.” She replied
“Whatever.” I replied
We stood there for a few seconds but she gave up and huffed and walked back over to Malcolm who then opened the back door for her. He closed the door and glared at me.
“What?” I asked
“We aren’t here to threaten her.” He replied
“Well it seems that threats are the only way to get the point into her thick skull.” I growled
“Just calm down hot head.” He sighed and got into the car
“You calm down.” I replied and got into the driver’s seat.•
We drove for about two hours when it was time to stop and get gas and something to eat. I took a right and drove into a parking lot to a small Dinner. We all got out and I looked over at Eve.
“What?” she asked annoyed
“Just making sure you don’t try to ditch us again.” I replied
“Yah and where would I go?” she asked “We’re in the middle of nowhere!”
“She has a point.” Malcolm said
“No one asked your opinion.” I snapped at him and continued on
We all walked into the dinner where a short red head girl greeted us.
“How many are there of you today?”
“Just the three of us.” Malcolm replied and she smiled and blushed
I rolled my eyes in disgust and watched as he followed after her. I looked back at Eve and motioned for her to go first. She to rolled her eyes and walked after Malcolm. We were lead to a booth where we given menus and ordered drinks. Malcolm sat next to Eve while I took a seat on the opposite side of them. I leaned back and sighed.
“We’ll have to get a hotel later,” I replied “I don’t know how long I can stay awake for.”
“I can drive you know,” Malcolm replied looking up from his menu “You don’t have to drive.”
“Yah and have you drive off without me? No thanks.”
“Like you did to me?”
“I stopped didn’t I?”
“Yah about a mile later!”
“Will you two stop it!” Eve snapped “It’s already bad enough that I got kidnapped by you two, now I have to hear you bicker the whole way?”
“Shut up.” I said looking at her “I’ve already had to deal with your kicking and screaming plus I had to wrestle you down to the ground, so don’t complain to me.”
“Screw you.” She snapped
I looked down at the menu and decided on a Philadelphia cheese steak sandwich. I pushed the menu away and saw the red head come over.
“Have you all decided?” she asked
“Yes,” I replied “I’ll have the Philadelphia cheese steak sandwich.”
“and the rest of you?”
Malcolm and I looked at Eve.
“I’m not hungry.” She replied
“You should eat something.” I replied
“I said I’m not hungry.” She said trying to keep her voice calm
“It’s ok, you can share with me,” Malcolm replied “Can I get a fruit salad?”
“Sure thing.” She smiled and then repeated what we ordered to check if she was right
We all replied yes and she walked away.
“You don’t need to share,” Eve said to Malcolm “I’m really not that hungry.”
“Trust me,” he smiled “You will be later. I can get a to go box for later.”
“Uh…thanks.” She replied
“No problem.”
I looked around to scan our surroundings. I closed my eyes and reopened them to check if anyone was a demon. No sign of any demon of the kind though. A family sat a little farther away; two little kids where jumping in their seats and laughing while the parents were trying to calm them down. A few tables away from them sat an old couple talking about their fiftieth wedding anniversary. All different voices in one room. I rubbed my temples as it started to give me a headache. Our waitress came back a few minutes later with our food and then went back to filling out other people’s orders. Malcolm pushed the fruit towards Eve and she finally took a strawberry and popped it into her mouth. I took a bite of my sandwich and continued eating.
“What’s wrong with your eyes?” Eve asked me suddenly
“Hmm?” I replied with a full mouth but then swallowed “What do you mean?”
She stared at me “Do you wear contacts or something?”
I looked at her “No.”
She was silent.
“Why?”
“They did the same thing earlier….”
“Oh,” I realized what she meant and closed my eyes again. My eyes would turn red either when I would get mad or when I tried to use my powers “No they just do that at certain times. I’ll explain it later when there aren’t so many people around.”
She stared at me for a little longer but then took another piece of fruit “So…where are we going?”
“I already told you,” I replied “we’re taking you to the Society.”
“Yah but what is the Society?”
“Would you like to take it from here?” I gestured to Malcolm
He sighed “The Society is a place where people train to hunt…things-”
“Watch it.” I growled
“Why are you taking me there?” she asked
I stood up and threw a tip on the table “We need to find a place more quite if you know what I mean.” I said
Eve started to object but Malcolm cut in “He’s right. Too many people. We’ll tell you when we stop for the night ok? I promise.”
“Fine.” She sighed and got up
We all left the restaurant after Malcolm got a to go box from the red head and left the little town in the dust. We would stop to get gas and bathroom breaks but that was it. Eve didn’t try to run away but I didn’t doubt that she would try again later on. The day turned to night and the clock was on ten by the time I decided that this was enough driving tonight. I hit Malcolm awake and he then gently shook Eve awake as well.
“Are we there yet?” She yawned
“Not yet,” Malcolm replied “We’re just at a hotel. We’ll be there by mid day tomorrow.”
We all got out of the car and walked into the building and up to the check out desk where a man was sleeping. I hit the bell and he jolted awake.
“Welcome to Andy’s Inn!” he said and then looked at us
“We’ll take a room for the night.” I replied
“We only have one suite left.” The man replied looking at the computer
I looked at the others. Well at least one of us could sleep on a couch or on another bed instead of the floor like I planned.
“Fine.” I said and threw down two hundred dollar bills on the desk•
