Malcolm (31)

“Well I don’t care,” Clement snapped “You guys can deal without me.”
“Clement!” Antoinette called after him as he disappeared
The queen sighed and it was an awkward silence for a few seconds. Eve had told me that something was wrong with Clement, but she didn’t seem to tell me the whole story. Maybe that was why no one went after him, because we could all tell something was going on. Also maybe it was better if we went without him; if something was going on with him he’d probably only create problems for all of us.
“He’ll come around,” Ann said hopefully “but at this moment I would suggest you all get packed. In an hour you’ll all leave. Layla,” she said turning towards her “….you’ll be in charge since you’re highest in rank.”
“Thank you.” She replied
I watched as everyone filed out of the room. Abrianna and Eve stood there waiting for me but I told them that I’d might them before we left. They both nodded and walked out of the room.
“I suppose you want me to keep an eye on him again?” I asked as Ann looked over at me
“Malcolm, you’re the only one I can trust at this time. I’m worried about him; I’m worried about what he’ll do. He’s changed….and I don’t know if he can be a trustworthy ally on this mission. Michael is right, he has to go with all of you no matter what, just make sure no one gets hurt.”
“Yah because if my pureblood gets hurt because of him you’ll have to deal with me then boy.” Raphael growled at me
“You just better keep an eye on your own pureblood.” Gabriel snapped at him
“Calm brothers.” Michael said
“I will.” I bowed looking at Ann and left the chamber to go pack for the trip and to just get the heck out of there. Being threatened by an angel (especially an archangel) is no joke.Ã

I was in my parent’s room with everything already packed. I had come to say my goodbyes to them before I left with everyone else. The room was more colorful then others. Maps of all kinds of places hung all over. My parents were mapmakers for the Society; they were the ones to help scan safe areas around this place. I looked around and saw maps of caves, field areas, forest, and even mountain areas. The room smelled of lavender and cheap cologne. Sure the smell was pretty strong, but it was the smell of home. I stood by the door as I waited for my parents to come out of their bedroom. They said they had to grab a few things for me before I go. Please dear god, have that be all they’re doing in there. A minuets or two later they came out. Dad managed a small smile where mom had tears in her eyes. I sighed; why were they always like this? My mom came up to me and hugged me tight again. I looked at my father and he smiled and nodded.
“Ok mom, that’s enough you’re suffocating me.” I managed a laugh as patted her back
She let go and smiled “You just be careful you hear me? Not one scratch when you come back.”
“Oh he’ll be fine Darla,” my father sighed “Besides wounds show character.”
I smirked at this; same old dad.
“Here take this.” My mom said putting a huge wade of money in my hand
I looked down in disbelief “How did-”
My father raised his hand up to stop me “Don’t ask. You need it, so take it.”
“I can’t,” I replied holding it out to him “really I have enough.”
“Are you disobeying me?” he asked “I told you to take it.”
“I’m not disobeying you! I just can’t take something that you might need.”
I looked over at my mother for help but she smiled “We’ll be fine, just take it.”
I stood there for a second. What should I do? Just drop it and leave? Or take it? I looked at my father and met his gaze and sighed. I put the money in my pocket. My parents were so darn stubborn.
“Thank you.” I said to both of them
They both nodded “Here take this as well,” my father said bring out something wrapped in cloth “It was mine back a hundred years ago.”
I laughed “You’re not old dad.”
“Don’t be such a suck up,” he smiled “but thanks.”
I took the object out of his hands and unwrapped it. Underneath laid a small wooden box that contained a compass and a small device. I looked at my parent’s in question.
“That isn’t just any compass,” my mother replied “It isn’t used for direction in a way you think. It will show you were to go in a time of at most importance.”
“And this?” I asked picking up the circular object
Tiny little designs were etched all over into it. It was about the size of a penny but 2 inches thicker.
“I’m sure you can figure it out.” my father smiled mischievously
I raised my eyebrow at this but didn’t question.
“Don’t be carless with it though…it can only be used one and only once. Who knows maybe you won’t even use it.”
I nodded “Thank you guys, you don’t know how much this means to me.”
“Just come back home safe and alive,” My mother hugged me “Goodbye Malcolm.”
“Bye mom…bye dad.” I replied looking up at him
After I finally made it out of their room I walked down the halls in silence. The money in my pocket felt heavy. It didn’t feel right to have it, so I vowed to myself that I would try to use it as less as I possibly could and whatever I used I would pay back to my parents. I was thankful that I had them for support. They have always been there for me, now it was my turn. I wouldn’t let this mission fail, even if wasn’t in charge. As I walked down the halls I saw Clement and stopped. He heard me and looked over.
“What?” he snapped “You guys haven’t already left yet?”
“….no I’m not even going to say it.” I shook my head and walked past him
“Say what?” he snapped
“That you are a two faced coward.” I shrugged and kept walking
I felt his hand on my shoulder but I ducked out of his grip and had my pistol sword out of my backpack and pointing at him the next second.
“I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you Clement but watch it.” I growled
He smirked “Like shooting or gutting me will do you any good.”
“Maybe and maybe not, but if you don’t keep yourself under control we just might find out. So are you coming with us or not?”
“Not.” He replied
I sighed but didn’t lower my weapon “Sad to say this because I really don’t believe it, but we need you Clement. I myself would rather have you stay behind but Michael says otherwise.”
“So what now, he’s got you whipped to?”
“Shut up Clement. Will you just get your stuff ready so we can get this over with and get back to our own damn lives?”
We stood there for a moment glaring at each other. He touched the tip of the sword and pushed it down “Fine, since you guys need me so much.”
God how much I wish I could kill him I thought as he walked past me and down the hall but sighed but I can’t so I’m just going to have to suck it up.
I walked out of the Society where I saw everyone waiting around two cars. They were different from the Society’s though; they were just regular blue and green Sedans. Ann and the archangels would get a hold of us later or probably talked to other people that they needed to. I was sure that Gabriel and I would talk later tonight anyways. I looked over at Abrianna and Eve and smiled “Told you I’d see you guys before we left.”
Eve smiled and Abrianna shook her head. I looked over at Layla and Bresal and nodded.
“So this is how we’re splitting up?” I asked her “You and Bresal and all of us purebloods together?”
“It depends if Clement shows up.” Bresal replied flatly
“Who said I wasn’t?” I heard a voice behind and turned around to find Clement
            “You?” I replied
He shrugged “So I changed my mind. Come on let’s just get this over with already and go. What do we need cars for anyways?”
“Not all of us are demons you know.” I snapped
“Yah but can’t you transport like us? Taking cars wastes money and time.”
“Yes, but we don’t have the energy to keep transporting all the time.” Layla replied
He rolled his eyes “Fine whatever. So how are we doing this then?”
I just asked the same thing I thought looking over at Layla.
“How about Zoe, Eve, Abri and you in one car and then Bresal, I and Clement in the other?” Layla replied looking over at me
“There is no way in hell I’m riding with him.” Clement growled at Layla referring to Bresal.
Will we ever get out of here?
“Says the one who almost choked me to death.” Bresal replied
“What?” Layla asked shocked looking over at Clement
“Hey everybody tries to choke someone once in a while.”
“Yah someone who’s insane.” I muttered
“Can we go yet?” Abri asked and I looked over at her
“Yah let’s go.” I replied as I walked over to the cars doors and opened the driver’s seat
Abrianna got into the passenger’s seat while Zoe and Eve climbed into the back. I grabbed the keys out of the glove box and started the car. I looked back and gave a small smile towards Zoe. I had heard about what happened to her dad; Ann had told me when she had called me into her chamber earlier. That was probably why she has been so quite. I felt bad as well because Antoinette had re-promoted me to demon hunter because of the ambush…so in a way I was taking his place.
I sighed as someone knocked on the car’s window. I rolled it down and looked up at Layla.
“You think you were just going to leave us like that?” she asked
I sighed “I wasn’t going to.” I replied raising my hands up in defense “Were do you guys want to meet up at?”
“We’ll keep driving as long as we can,” she replied “We’ll use our cell phones to keep in touch.”
I nodded “Sounds like a plan.”
She patted the car door and went back to her own. I looked in the rear-view mirror and waited for her headlights to come on. I put the car into drive and stepped on the gas where we drove down the path and past the gates; away from my home, away from other people and their rumors, away from safety. We were on our own now, with only each other to count on. This should be interesting.Ã
